Efrat Shimron, PhD, Senior Lecturer

Dr. Efrat Shimron is an assistant professor at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, with dual affiliation to the Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) & Biomedical Engineering (BME) departments.
The research at the Shimron lab focuses on developing computational techniques for solving inverse problems in medical imaging, primarily for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). It combines computer vision, AI, physics, and medical sciences. We combine innovative, experimental mechanobiology approaches with advanced image processing, computer modeling, and machine learning approaches. Projects include experimental, computational and engineering design work.
The lab focuses on developing machine learning (ML) techniques for medical imaging with MRI, for example:
ML methods for image reconstruction from sub-sampled data - theory & algorithms.
ML methods for enhancing image quality, e.g. improved signal-to-noise (SNR) in low-field MRI.
ML motion correction techniques.
ML techniques for next-generation MRI scanners, low-field MRIs, which are small and portable
3D-printing of realistic phantoms.
Acquiring new MRI data, based on sampling patterns that we design.
Personalized healthcare algorithms.
