RTICC Researchers Awarded Prestigious National and International Honors and Grants
These achievements highlight our commitment to pioneering fundamental and translational cancer research

- Prof. Hossam Haick was bestowed the Israeli Presidential Medal of Honor
In a remarkable recognition of extraordinary scientific leadership, RTICC member Prof. Hossam Haick has received the Israeli Presidential Medal of Honor. This supreme civilian honor celebrates Prof. Haick’s internationally acclaimed breakthroughs in nanotechnology and non-invasive medical diagnostics, including his pioneering work on volatile organic compound sensors and "electronic nose" technologies for early cancer detection. The award also honors his visionary dedication to higher education, mentorship, and fostering scientific collaboration that inspires diverse communities in Israel and globally.
- Technion Research Teams Secure MAVRI Biomedical Research Grants
The RTICC proudly congratulates the three Technion research teams who have been awarded prestigious MAVRI Biomedical Research Grants. Administered by the Israel Science Foundation (ISF), the MAVRI program is a landmark national initiative designed to transform biomedical research across Israel. The selected Technion projects:
Prof. Irit Ben Aharon (Rambam Health Care Campus), Prof. Ronit Satchi-Fainaro (Tel Aviv University)- focused on targeted nanomedicines against HER2-driven cancer spread.
Dr. Ofrat Beyar Katz (Rambam Health Care Campus), Prof. Yuval Shaked (Rappaport Faculty of Medicine), Prof. Hadas Weinstein Marom (MIGAL Galilee Research Institute), Dr. Chen Buxbaum (Rambam Health Care Campus)- Novel multi-component CAR-T therapies for glioblastoma.
Prof. Ron Kimmel (Taub Faculty of Computer Science), Assoc. Prof. Dvir Aran (Faculty of Biology)- Aligning tissue morphology with biomarkers for improved precision diagnostics.
These achievements highlight our commitment to pioneering fundamental and translational research, bridging academic innovation with clinical practice to deepen our understanding of cancer mechanisms and accelerate life-saving medical applications.
- Asst. Prof. Moti Freiman Awarded Gray Foundation Grant for Early Ovarian Cancer Detection
RTICC member Asst. Prof. Moti Freiman from the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering has been awarded the renowned Gray Foundation Grant to advance critical research into the early detection of ovarian cancer. Often termed a silent killer due to its subtle early symptoms, ovarian cancer presents a critical challenge where early diagnosis can drastically improve patient survival rates. Asst. Prof. Freiman’s research utilizes state-of-the-art artificial intelligence, advanced MRI, machine learning, and advanced computational imaging to uncover novel early-stage biomarkers, driving transformative progress toward timely diagnosis and targeted intervention strategies.
