New Call for Proposals: Catalysis Meets Cancer Research

Three research proposals will be selected, each receiving ~$100,000 in funding, over two years

The Rappaport Cancer Research Center (RTICC), in collaboration with the Resnick Sustainability Center for Catalysis,  is pleased to announce a new Call for Proposals under the "Catalysis Meets Cancer Research" Initiative. Our goal is to bridge disciplines, integrating cancer research with catalysis at all levels to
create a seed for a new category of transformative molecular interventions in cancer.

The core concept of "Catalysis Meets Cancer Research" lies in translating the powerful principles of chemical catalysis, used in industrial and environmental sectors, to solve critical challenges in cancer research. By tailoring synthetic and bio-catalytic tools to interact with complex biological environments, researchers aim to develop highly targeted cancer therapies and ultra-precise diagnostic systems.

Headed by RTICC Director Prof. Amir Orian (Rappaport Faculty of Medicine), RSCC Director Prof. Ilan Marek (Schulich Faculty of Chemistry), and Asst. Prof. Assaf Zinger (Wolfson Faculty of Chemical Engineering), the initiative is operating as an internal Technion hub, establishing a dynamic platform for exploring innovative interdisciplinary strategies to advance cancer diagnostics, therapeutics, and biological discovery.

The newly launched grant program is designed to support innovative collaborative projects led jointly by RTICC and RSCC members. As part of this initiative, three research proposals will be selected, each receiving ~$100,000 in funding for a period of two years.

This funding opportunity represents a major milestone for the initiative, which was officially launched on June 30, 2026, at a kickoff event at the Kedem Hotel. The event united researchers from various Technion faculties, establishing a diverse scientific community that goes beyond standard therapeutic approaches by utilizing chemical reactions to directly target and dismantle the defense mechanisms of tumor cells.
