Prof. Markus Diefenbacher is Professor of Experimental Pneumology at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and Research Group Leader in Experimental Immuno-Oncology at Helmholtz Munich. His research focuses on the genetic complexity of solid tumors and the role of the ubiquitin-proteasome system in cancer, with particular emphasis on lung and colorectal cancer.
His group develops advanced CRISPR/Cas9-based in vivo and ex vivo models, including genetically engineered mouse models and patient-derived organoids, to investigate tumor development, tumor–environment interactions, and therapeutic vulnerabilities. His work combines ubiquitin biology, genome engineering, cancer modeling, spatial biology, and multi-omics approaches to identify tumor-intrinsic vulnerabilities and inform the development of new therapeutic strategies.
